I think that one of the culture differences is food. In book that I read, cheese market is held regularly. It is unfamiliar for Japanese, I think. From another point of view, there is a juggler in a public place, like park. In Japan, we can see person who sing a song or draw a picture, not juggle. There are also double-decker buses in this story. It's unique transportation.
I learned the system of entry permit in this book. In Japan, we have to wait for immigration examination when we go abroad. On the other hand, polices have only a quick look at our passport when we enter in Netherlands from . Those who live in Japan have to get on planes and ships if we want to go abroad. However, those who live in continental states can pass across the border easily. They can also pass by car and on foot.

Which country was the story set in? In the UK we also have to go overseas to visit another country but when I have visited Europe is seems strange to be able to travel to another country by car!
